Auto-unprotect not working on all files

Hi, I have an HD Fox T2 and for some reason the auto-unprotect package isn't removing the 'enc' flag from all high-definition recordings, meaning I can only watch them on the box itself and that's it, it seems.
There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to which files remain flagged and which don't, ie films recorded from the same channel.
I have tried re-installing the package as I understand that on first installation it is supposed to look for HD recordings and unflag them, but still no dice.
Does anyone have any tips for sorting this one please, pref in layman's terms as I'm not an expert!
Thanks.

Try running the reset_unprotect diagnostic from the web interface Diagnostics page, then restart the box using the remote control.

Did you mean HD Fox T2 or HDR Fox T2?

HD Fox T2, I have a hard drive attached for recordings. Thanks for the tip, it doesn't seem to have worked alas. The diagnostic only seems to take a second, should it take longer? The file in question still seems to be flagged 'enc'.

Have you restarted? The box should go into full standby (wait for click) before restarting.

Edit, just realised this is an HD so will be unlikely to click.

Yippee a second restart seems to have done the trick. Perhaps I didn't leave the box off for long enough before restarting it before. Thanks for the help :)

Even without the Enc flag though, you won't be able to decrypt the recordings unless you're using HDR mode.

Since I put a 2TB drive in my HDR, it squeaks rather than clicks : )

The HD-FOX is very limited in that respect, unprotecting the recordings is not the same as decrypting them, and the HD-FOX has no means to stream native content off the box (unlike the HDR-FOX). You can use Mediatomb with the custom firmware, but that needs a decrypted file in the first place.

Since I updated my box to a 2TB HDD and the latest version of the custom software then I've also been suffering from this too... I've tried uninstalling the auto-unprotect package and reinstalling and also running reset_unprotect and restarting (after waiting for it to go fully into standby). reset_unprotect does then clear the outstanding ENC flags but new HD recordings after a short time still have the ENC flags set. Previously I've never had a problem with auto-unprotect,. Any suggestions on what else I could try to fix this permanently?

I am unclear as to when you are looking at the Enc flag. Are you saying that after the Humax has finished making the recording the Enc flag is still set? It should be cleared immediately the recording ends unless you are in chase play mode in which case it will be cleared when finished playing.

I'm seeing Enc flags on occasions still set hours after the recordings have finished. It seems to happen when I have a large number of back to back recordings going on i.e. 2 between 8-9 and another 2 between 9-10 and then again at 11. Unfortunately the few recordings I had that had Enc still set have been watched and deleted. I'll keep an eye on it and post some more specific details if it happens again. Thanks.

If it happens again could you type '/bin/ps -w' from a telnet prompt and also have a look at modinit.log.

Both tonights Borgen's are still showing as Enc despite the recordings having been completed for some time now... I do see a "/mnt/hd2/dms_cds.db: No such file or directory" entry in modinit.log

TIA.

Hmm looks like Content Share had somehow got switched off (and not by me!). Anyways I've re-enabled it now and I have dms_cs.db again now, so fingers crossed that'll sort it. Borgen's are still Enc at the moment. If they don't clear soon I'll try reset_unprotect again....

That's great, thanks xyz321. Thinking about it I guess the Content share got disabled when I swapped drives...
