Back to 2000T

I’ve gone back to using my 2000T after some years with a HDR Fox which developed some reliability issues. If you don’t mind only two tuners and no internet connected apps it does a very good job. Fairly cheap on eBay. I have a smart tv for catch up, YouTube etc. I changed to a 2.5” 5000rpm hard drive for video which makes it quiet and only draws 9 watts maximum for the whole unit. The interface is quick and not dissimilar to the Fox. Posting this because of the discussions about BT/ee boxes.

Recordings and the sidecar files from the HDR Fox (if decrypted) can be uploaded to the 2000T and it will look as though they were recorded on it. "Foxy" developed for the Foxes (obviously) will work on 2000T recordings so you can archive HiDef recordings easily. The ability to organise your recordings (or uploaded files) into folders is something missing from later Humaxes. The lack of internet apps doesn't really bother me. The inability to play some downloaded video/audio formats is a pain. Having said that, the 2000T is probably my favourite Humax (I haven't got an HD/HDR Fox) - the remote control isn't!

Folders are essential for a PVR in my opinion. Even my elderly parents and aunt value them and prefer to set series recordings because it's easier to find the episodes in the series with them all in the same folder. They do leave the empty folders for me to delete when they've finished watching and deleting all episodes. I'm happy to delete them, and if I wasn't around so often I'm sure they could be taught how to do it as it's not exactly difficult.

The first time I was exposed to one huge long list of all your recordings was on the YouView trial with the first Humax YouView boxes, and I absolutely hated it. It's like going back to a VCR with a very long tape!

OT: That's what tidy-folders is for on the HD(R) T2.

The HDR-2000Ts manufactured in the first few years had little or no on-line complaints concerning noise. The first time I saw an HDR-2000t was a week or 2 after the first release. I was surprised how quiet it was. Even putting my very good ear to the box it was difficult to hear whether or not it was switched on.

After a few years there was a noticeable start of on-line comments (and some whinging) that the 2000T that they had recently bought was noisy.
Humax had ceased using the HDD/fan chassis. Instead Humax were bolting the HDD directly to the base, (and not installing a fan).

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the HDR-1800T never had the HDD/fan chassis, but did use a 2.5".
