BBC and the Met Office

The BBC has already dropped the Met Office from the bids it is considering for the next 5 year contract. There are two remaining contenders: one from the Netherlands and one based in New Zealand. (The New Zealand outfit has a UK base, supplies forecasts to a number of retailers and had hoped to win the contract back in 2010.)

To me it feels wrong not to use the UK Met Office.

Ludicrous. Possibly the BBC commissioners are labouring under a misguided expectation that they could be criticised for not inviting competitive tender, but if they are not even inviting the Met Office to tender one wonders if there is some kind of deeper bust-up.
