BBC FOUR Wind Down

Black Hole

May contain traces of nut
I notice the Beeb rolled out Jaws again tonight, just in case you had not seen it within the 50 years since its release - what a joke their listings have been recently!
There is very little new content on BBC4 (The Sky At Night being a notable exception), but the current Thursday night airing of classic movies does not seem unreasonable.

FWIW: I've never watched Jaws, not my thing.

There isn't much content on BBC4 that I find interesting these days. The content has always included a lot of archive material. Some of the old documentaries are interesting.
Classic movies (films!) great, just not with BBC FOUR embedded in them.
What I miss is the quality foreign dramas that used to be on Saturday. Looks like Walter Presents on Channel 4 has taken over that job. Unfortunately most series are streaming only, except for the Friday slot on More4.
I've never watched Jaws, and don't intend to.

I can see the current Director General wanting to close the broadcast BBC4 down and stream the content. Worked well for BBC3 didn't it?

To be honest I have almost given up scanning the guide for the BBC offerings as it seems to comprise mostly cheap to produce TV. Sport, rubbish game shows, celebrity this that or the other, docudrama and the one thing that has me directing expletives at the telly is the interruption of the totally censored and biased news @ 10 to advertise the upcoming news night on their other channel.

If my wife did not use iPlayer a lot of the time I would definitely stop paying the TV Licence fee and just stick to Prime and Netflix where I can always find something to watch.

I miss them too.

The picture quality of C4 streaming is poor compared to Freeview HD, and the sound is stereo only. When the foreign dramas were shown on BBC4 HD most of them had 5.1 sound.

I only ever watched them on BBC4 SD so I haven't noticed a loss of quality.
On a test item on Channel 4 (Inspector Ricciardi S3E1), the best video was 1920x1080 @ 5653kbps, only one sound track 128k 2 channel. Not sure how the video compares with Freeview HiDef. Obviously sound isn't 5.1 - but I only have 2 ears!

The only 2 ears argument is irrelevant. 2 speakers cannot produce the sound that the real world produces all around you. Nor can 5.1 speakers or even 7.1.4 for full Atmos, but they come closer.
