BT... Again!

Black Hole

May contain traces of nut
Anybody who tries to phone me gets "number error". I can phone out, and my number gets reported correctly by CLI. I've confirmed this myself, with calls to and from my mobile.

I tried BT's fault reporting web page and all that did was trigger a line test and say it was fine, I couldn't choose an option which corresponds with my problem. So I phoned 151 and they ran a line test, and confirmed my observations, and now want to send out an engineer.

I know they are just following a script, but TELL ME HOW THIS CAN BE A PROBLEM AT MY END!!!!

Stupid script.

Is this with a basic corded phone plugged into the main / test socket and nothing plugged into any other socket?

Yup. And even if it wasn't, how can a line fault produce a "number error" as if the caller has misdialled? I guess that's the modern equivalent of "unobtainable". I can dial out, remember, so the basic circuit must be OK.

I wonder what would happen if you dialled 17070 and selected the ringback test option?

Don't start me on BT...
