Can I increase the size of the subtitles on screen?

The only options you have are to turn them on and off, and select fixed or variable fonts.
Menu >> Settings >> Preferences >> Screen Display >> Subtitle Display | Subtitle Font
You might be able to use the zoom facilities on the TV, if it has any.
