Can't cut file

Thanks for both the last two responses. Though it is still useful to know that ageing can make the Humax display unreadable.

I think I may as well wait for 3.14. There's only the one problem with what I have and there is the working alternative approach, even though I prefer the method that no longer works.

Removing the orange filter sounds a good idea, and the instructions are clear. But it does feel a bit much for me. After all, I was mainly concerned that I would need to read the display when updating the firmware. If the messages are on the TV screen, I don't have to worry.

Upgrading the firmware probably won't solve my problem, but will be worth doing. I had hoped that removing the Magic Folders package and the reinstalling it would solve it, but no luck. SOMETHING must have stopped the activity working, but I have no idea what, and so far the only suggestions have been work-arounds or sensible guesses that turned out not to work. This is NOT a complaint, there's no reason anyone should be able to diagnose this oddity, but I had hoped.

I see that CF 3.13 came out years ago. I just hadn't bothered. I suppose that if I want to update I have to go through the whole process of putting the cf on a USB Stick, there's no shortcut.
If you install the custom-firmware-hdr update package, it should update to 3.13 now (based on Humax 1.03.12).
It is highly recommended that you disable Power On/Off settings temporarily if you have the machine set up to sleep/wake rather than staying on.
It takes about 7 minutes to install and you should be able to do it all from your web browser.

Try updating to version 1.4 now. I suspect you may be mis-operating it by moving files to the wrong place. I have re-worked it so it doesn't matter. It always annoyed me how unintuitive it was.
I've also made it in to a service so you can see whether it's running or not and stop/start it etc. on the Service Management page.

Thanks. The update to 1.4 was automatic, I didn't have to do anything. It was just there when I opened the web. After that, I installed the custom-firmware-hdr package and it did update - much more convenient than looking for a USB Stick. I'll check what happens when I cut/crop later on.

Whatever the cause (I expect we shall never know) after the updated firmware and updated Magic Folders, the couple of files I have tried work fine.

Thanks for the suggestion of using the desktop version of web with the phone in landscape mode. This is workable, whereas in portrait mode it was too small to be usable. I still prefer Magic Folders, but now I have two usable methods (as well as working on my computer)

Of course 'we' know. Or at least I do. I suspected you were moving files in to the "[cut]/(Move files here with bookmarks marking cut points)" folder instead of in to the "[cut]" folder, and you have proved that I was right.
Yesterday's update automatically moves files from the former to the latter, so that regardless of where you copy it the processing works as desired.
It's this that I referred to as unintuitive, which it is, having fallen over it myself in the past.
The "Like" button is that way ----->

...but the only way to display explanatory text. Perhaps the folder could be made read-only?

I guess that will do.

Any milage in renaming "cut" as "crop"?
