Cooling Fan

My venerable machine is still chugging happily along on its second HDD, but the cooling fan has decided to die. Does anyone please have ideas as to where I might get a replacement? Fans with the same typenumber (FD125015LL) are available but not the same brand (ORITEK). More to the point, fans available today are two wire, whereas my old one has three wires. Do I just wire the black and the red and forget about the white?

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks - Mike -

How do you know the fan has 'decided to die'? Die how? Have you put volts directly across it?
It seems unlikely. Fans don't usually just die without at least some indications.

Thanks for the sanity check, prpr. I had tried the fan on a fresh 9v battery, with no success. But after you raised that question I repeated the test with a 12 v power supply, and indeed the fan runs. I think I'll power it permanently on; does anyone please have suggestions as to the most easily 'get-at-able' place to take a 12v supply from?

...which suggests it needs cleaning.
They usually need oiling, the sintered bronze bearings tend to run dry after an extended period. Often there is a sticker on one side that you can lift to expose the bearing. I drop of light oil such as sewing machine oil will be enough to supply the bearing with enough oil to run for a couple of years.

Full details in the link above, but my recommendation is to clean any gunk (dried oil/grease/dust) out of the bearing first.
