crash

I saw the 'Fix Disc' in packages in the Webif and installed it. Not sure if that was needed. I have read the instructions for accessing Telnet and Maintenance mode, but, I am thinking as things are working well now whether to leave well enough alone. And is the Humax showing the CF2.23 on the front panel enough for me to know this has been fully installed?

What do you mean "fully installed"?

The USB installation of the custom firmware download only installs the 'hooks' into the standard firmware which then allow additional facilities to be installed directly by Internet download (WebIF Package Management). A few utilities which can be used to resolve issues when the HDR-FOX internal HDD is faulty are also installed as part of the custom firmware, and these are accessed via Telnet (not a web browser).

What to expect as a result of installing custom firmware, and during the process thereof, is explained HERE (click).

Regarding the fix-disk package, I can't remember what that does and I suspect it is ripe for removal from the available package set. I imagine it is a left-over from the days before the disk maintenance system was moved into the base firmware installation (much more sensible, as it is unlikely the WebIF or package installation would be practical in the event of HDD analysis and repair being required).

I did not get the custom firmware installed message on the Webif and reinstalled it again , but, still no confirmation of the successful installation of updated firmware. I was not sure whether this because I have an earlier version already installed.

You don't get the 'successful install/ install full web interface' message if you already have a previous version installed. The current custom firmware version is displayed on the front panel during boot-up. If you open Web-If, the current versions (custom and otherwise) are displayed in the bottom right-hand corner.

If you are updating an existing custom firmware installation with a new USB download, the CF infrastructure is already present on the HDD (you have only updated the element contained in flash memory) and the updated CF just carries on working with it. If you wanted to completely flush it all out and start again you would have to go through the RMA process (see WebIF >> Diagnostics).

Thanks for replies and clearing that point up for me. I didn't realise, but, obviously should have mentioned that I had a previous CF installed.

It's the latest version packaged up. Users of old firmware versions with auto update on will keep fix-disk up-to-date, ready to be used in the event of a problem. The tmenu package is similar in that it's in flash but also kept up to date via a package.

Now used the Fix-disk package that I installed .
Very grateful for all advice regarding the problems here. Thanks for patience with us non tech people.Don't want to bang on about any disability, but please forgive me when I have missed some information that was visible ( such as: on Web-If, the current versions (custom and otherwise) are displayed in the bottom right-hand corner) etc. I an, also, visually impaired and using specialised magnification on my PC, the downfall being that I do not see the whole screen in one go. All good again anyway and many thanks.

Hidden menu changes causing HDR to crash.

Maybe this has been covered before but I was changing settings (menu>settings>system>system information. ... secret menu...) and selected the operator setting. I scrolled down to UPC then scrolled down once more there seems to be a blank Operator Setting. However selecting this causes the box to crash.

I know this is going off topic but the reason I was changing the settings was because recent changes to Sa0rview means that series link on freeview PVRs don't work. Nordic settings vs D book specifications.
Changing country / operator settings don't help get the series link back!

Is there a separate thread for the secret menu?
