Customised Firmware Query!

Hi Folks,

I've been thinking about loading the Customised Firmware but I'm wondering if it's worth it for my limited use of it. I have a 1TB Hard Drive. I mainly want it to decode HD files, I have a lot and am constantly using the Foxy programme to do it but there's a lot of running between the Humax and the Laptop and it takes time.
The only other thing I might use it for is to change the digital clock on screen saver as I don't like the style of the current one. Also I've read somewhere that loading this software slows down the TV Guide. Is that true and if so is it by much?
Does the Customised Firmware Interface open up when you first turn on the Humax box or is it the TV as it is now without the Customised Firmware?

Thanks in advance., :)

Have you actually bothered reading what's already written?

For example, pinned near the top of the Custom Firmware section: Quick Start Guide (particularly para 7).

Come back and ask supplementary questions which have not been answered before by all means, but please consult the standard references first.

Also I've read somewhere that loading this software slows down the TV Guide.
Where? Who says? What firmware are you used to / will be comparing it with? See Things Every... (click) section 1, but the short answer is "no" – you're confusing the custom firmware with Humax firmware revisions.

PS: For anyone, like Zodiac, reading this and wondering whether CF is worth the bother – what are you going to do if the file system develops errors or the HDD needs recovery? The only tool Humax provide is a complete reformat...

The OP is likely referring to the "which version" wiki that lists v1.03.12 with the disadvantage of a "Slow on-TV Guide" for stock and customised FW versions.

I recall slower EPG navigation using the remote control up / down buttons. Using the page up / down buttons is a good workaround. Firmware v1.02.32 doesn't have the slow down and has worked well for me for years.

Yes. I personally do not notice any particular problem with 1.03.xx, and the OP has not declared what version firmware he is currently running.

In any case that is everything to do with the STANDARD firmware and nothing to do with CF, which is available based on 1.02.xx or 1.03.xx according to your preference. This all underlines that the information is already available.
