Sorry I missed your comment! I wasn't saying that was the exact issue, I'm just trying to figure stuff out. I've signed up with uptimerobot.com - I'm doing a ping check and a 200 - ok http response check, with immediate alerts. Once I have some information I can go to the web host and see if they can shed any light.
