DDoS?

If it's not P**in, then it's LLMs fu**ing everything up.

Custom firmware is now available for all Humax models of PVR. This includes the 9150, the 9200, the 9300, the HDR 2000T and HDR 1800T, the FVP4000 and 5000 and also the mid-range Aura.
All these models are both SD and HD compatible, and a retrofit has been developed for the HDR Fox T2 that makes it UHD compatible. This may also extend to the HD Fox-T2 although details are unconfirmed at this time. Other Youview models also have custom firmware in development.
Humax have recently been convinced to restart production of their most popular old models, and they are also releasing the source code to previously unavailable firmware/software modules, finally fulfilling their commitment to the open source movement.
A spokesperson for Richer Sounds said they were excited by the new developments. Amazon were also said to be looking at stocking these newer units, although they didn't respond to a press enquiry.

I don't know what you're saying. This is real. I bet you didn't know I used to work in a newsroom did you?
I'll have to see if I can resurrect my hamster for an updated picture.

You failed to mention that a limited edition HDR Fox T2 is being released with a rainbow coloured casing to show support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

So does anyone know what's happening? It was up to 12000 'guests' a minute ago.
Time to do some geo-blocking? Or prevent 'guests' doing anything at all? Approve all new registrations?

I haven't spotted that many guests on my visits.
Some strange names a few days ago - but can't remember them exactly and can't find them now (possibly already blocked/deleted/banned). Something of the form PREFIXname where the prefix was the same for both and in capitals and name was different. Two different countries listed as the new member's location.

Would geo-blocking work? Some members currently active appear to on holiday with questions about remote access to their equipment. Surely we can't geo-block a legitimate member when they are abroad. Geo-blocking when registering might be just as bad. A legitimate prospective member refused assistance because of current location.

All new registrations have been manually approved for quite some time, with very few passing the manual IP and email address checks.
Unfortunately the Xenforo software doesn't allow forum members to see if a member has been banned. Staff members see a line struck through the name of a banned member.

Duckduckgo always tells me I am in Norway due to my Opera VPN being on but I can change it from Europe to America or Asia and I expect I am not the only one here using a VPN.

I did see a month old member here yesterday and again today from Japan with an odd name of Lucius something looking at the 9200 listing.

Any attempt at geo-blocking or otherwise limiting guest access is likely to require significant computing resources and slow the forums down even more than their lurking

Ironically one that slipped through the net, @varkanoid, chose to post on this thread on Boxing bay!

That one had been a member since 2012, and was dealt with shortly after posting.

If it's anything like what crippled MythTV.org a while back it's AI crawlers and fetchers. There was an article about this on The Register.

In the end the MythTV.org admin put the website behind haproxy which caused him an awful lot of work to get the website useable again.

Regards, Steve.

OK, but what about preventing guests from being able to read anything? Like wot they did on the other site during the previous shutdown phase.
That would presumably stop the crawlers with the manual approval required for membership.
It's several times a day now.
