DetectAds

DetectAdds is not detecting and removing via chaserun all channels I have retained:

Retained channels:
Yesterday, Earthxtv, PBS America, AlJazeera eng (BBC, of course no adds to remove.)

Is DetectAds capable of removing adds from my retained channels?

I believe that the share file should be switched on. Where do I find the setting?

That's a basic.

From the wiki section on DetectAds:
In common with all processes that manipulate the recording file, DetectAds needs to work on a decrypted file or to decrypt the file itself. For this, the minimum requirement is to ensure Content Sharing is enabled via Menu >> Settings >> System >> Internet Setting >> Content Share = On. This setting can be enforced using the bootsettings package.

Mostly, anything you want to know like this will be on the wiki (link at the top of the forum pages) and/or the relevant thread for the package (see the pinned threads at the top of the forum listing).

I am sorry to admit this, but i can not find the content share option. I am in settings for detectads package / detect advert breaks: there is not an option there about content share.

I have also tried to find it in http://192.168.1.66/settings/settings.jim
Settings.jim? has no option for "internet system".

On this occasion, would mind posting the full url for me to arrive at the content share option.?

Use the remote control.
Or install and configure the aforementioned boot-settings package.
Or both.

In post #2 the quoted section tells you exactly how to find it, this is using the standard IR remote control - that came with the unit - "settings" button to access the settings menu on the TV screen.

I am sorry to admit this, but i can not find the content share option.
Menu >> Settings >> System >> Internet Setting >> Content Share = On

"Menu" doesn't appear anywhere in the WebIF, and that's why you can't find it – try pressing the Menu button on your remote control handset! When we mean something on the WebIF, the instructions will say something like (eg):

WebIF >> Diagnostics >> Reboot System

Now that I have repaired the HD, for which I thank the members for guidance, I wish to go back to the beginning of this topic. You will notice that a number of channels do not seem to get their adverts removed. Today I ran a test by recording a program on EarthXTV. i can confirm that the share attribute has been on and still is. The recording did not remove any of the adverts.

Is it reasonable for me to expect the adverts to be removed? I ask because perhaps the adverts are not being signalled by the broadcaster in a way which the add remover is designed to recognise.

Is there any way you can help me to reinstate the add removal app on the stations I listed? Are there any log files I should post that could indicate the cause?

DetectAds works by detecting the periods of silence between ads, it can be fooled by short ad breaks or very long commercials such as the charity appeals that are often shown during the afternoon, also by silences between scenes in the programme. Some times there can be significant differences in detection success between episodes of the same series.
I have never attempted to record a program on EarthXTV so that I can observe what is happening

DetectAds records progress in detectads.log when using chaserun and auto.log when running from the auto processing log
You could specify -d 2 in the DetectAds options to increase the debugging messages.
There are also a number of other options that can control how the detection is performed but it can take a lot of trial and error to see if the make a difference - usually they are not needed.

Thank you for your comments. I hope we can make adjustments so that the long advertising broadcasts can be removed.

I have failed to find the DetectAdds options. I looked in the wiki and noted;

From the Wiki:

To specify specific Processing Options for recordings in a folder select "Enable Auto DetectAds" and then "Edit Auto DetectAds options" on the folder Opt+ menu, this will bring up the file editor where you can specify the required options on the first line of the file. The available options are presented as an aide-mémoire.

i am not finding the edit auto detect /ads options, or the Opt+ menu

What is the way in?I have tried the packjage management option but I have not seen the opt+ menu. I am supposed to telnet into the Humax?

Telnet not required.

On the Humax Webif Settings web page,
What options do you currently have specified for DetectAds?

Options that aren't available via the specific settings fields can be specified in Other options and will apply to al DetectAds runs

You can all specify options for a series, using the Webif Browse menu, choose the series folder, click OPT+, click Enable Auto DetectAds, then click Edit Auto DetectAds Options

Options can be specified on the top line, the remainder of the file is a list of available options

The OPT+ option is at the end of every entry on the WebIF browser GUI.
See https://wiki.hummy.tv/wiki/File:Webif-opt.png for a screen shot of what the WebIF looks like with some of the options expanded.

Currently this is how it is set up. I noticed that your example showed the option (on) of only bookmark ends of ad breaks. I just switched that option on..

Running with cropping turned off so I could see position of ad breaks I see a fairly normal three ad breaks in a 60 minute program on EarthxTV

I haven't checked the accuracy of the bookmark points yet.

If a long advertising broadcast looks just like a programme segment, how can that be done?

The best you can do is set bookmarks anywhere there are silences, so you can easily skip to the next one during playback.

I did a test record this morning using the settings I posted previously.

There were two recordings showing in the recording list for the one test broadcast :

13m (00.00 22)
17m

The actual broadcast was about 35m.

After I noted that none of the adds had been removed I tried to jump to the first bookmark. This produced an error report saying there were no bookmarks. .

The error log:

I hope the above helps find the cause of no add detection.

The libsndfile error is worrying - it is failing at the very beginning
Could you also post chaseget.log for the period

You could try a force reinstall (on the webif diag page) of libsndfile and chaseget packages

Does it work if you record a programme from a mainstream channel (ITV1, Channel 4/5)

10/02/2024 13:33:48 - CG(1721)- ChaseGet end /mod/tmp/Wardens_20240210_1200-inp.ts Size 326885376 bytes

2810/02/2024 12:04:02 - CG(2673)- ChaseGet /mod/tmp/Wardens_20240210_1200-inp.ts
i would be surprised if it works on mainstream channels as it has not been working properly for a long time.
I have just reinstalled the two packages your recommended. I will do another test record and report back tomorrow.

Apart from a timed recording, I also set the recorder to record a currently broadcast program.

i have just noticed the following drop down report on the humax interface:

745_1_11_Video_1REC.png
Recording Microorganisms_ The Air We Breathe_20240210_2306.ts
detectads.png
Detecting adverts in Microorganisms_ The Air We Breathe_20240210_2306.ts

EarthxTV.png
Watching 79: EarthxTV - Microorganisms: The Air We Breathe (23:00 - 00:00) [21%]

The chaseget log show it retried processing at 13:29 (detectads puts an entry on to the auto processing queue in case there is a failure) and this time did return data.
Could you post the auto.log for 13:29 onwards!
