Disk corruption

I'm running the very latest custom firmware. Following a warning on the WebIF, I've run a full disk scan on the 1TB disk. This has now been running for about 20 hours. About 30 corrupt blocks were initially found. Currently in the "Checking to see if this block is in use" phase with some very slow "Searching for inode..." passes. Seems I have a problem with corruption in file mnt/hd2/Tsr/0.nts which I believe is the live feed buffer.

What's the best thing to do? Can I break out of the checking or should I leave it to check the remaining blocks? Do I just delete the above file as I think it will probably just get recreated at reboot. But if I delete the file, this will free up the corrupt blocks, but will they just get reallocated again or are they actually marked as bad now?

Thanks

Leave it until it's fixed all the bad sectors. The disk automatically remaps good ones in place of bad ones. If you break out, you will leave unusable sectors, which will get allocated at some point.

Having fixed the disk errors last week, three more duff sectors reported and fixed this weekend. So I guess this may be the beginning of the end for the original 1TB disk. As I have latest custom firmware installed (3.0), I see this includes support for large block devices. So does this mean if I upgrade to a 2TB disk, will this now format cleanly in the box, or do I still have to follow the full procedure documented on this site including the 4kalign? Assuming the old disk is still working, can I just put it in an external caddy and plug it into the Hummy - will it magically see all the existing recordings? And finally, any recommended 2TB disks?

Thanks

More work is required before you can use EFI drives for the internal HDD, and it will almost certainly need custom formatting (not the standard format option). Standard firmware 1.03.xx includes support for drives up to 2TiB, so you should be able to fit, format, and forget. More info here: http://wiki.hummy.tv/wiki/2TB_Disk_Installation_Blog

Yes - but only the original HDR-FOX unless the recordings have been previously decrypted.

Thanks for the info. I've been searching round the forum and the Seagate Pipeline 2TB seems the disk of choice. Also interesting to see in those links the references to the signal breakup messages being related to disk problems. I've started to see this over the last week or two, so definitely more evidence of growing problems and can't just blame the weather. Looks like a transplant job for later in the week when I have some spare time! Will have to dig out my external USB disk connector.

Cheers
