Does Smartmon Work?

With all the current talk about Fan noise, I thought I would try and monitor the Hard disk drive temperature, So, Has anyone managed to get smartmontools 5.41 working?

I have installed Ver 5.41 and run /mod/sbin/smartd –d But all I get is ‘Unable to monitor any SMART enabled devices’ there is also a debug line that states ‘glob(3) found no matches for pattern /dev/sd[a-c][a-z]’

As the internal HDD should be either /dev/sda or /dev/sdb I’m not sure how to proceed

Bit more progress, smartd is the deamon. If you run /mod/bin/smartctl /dev/sda -A you get this :-

Code:
humax# /mod/bin/smartctl /dev/sdb -A
smartctl 5.41 2011-06-09 r3365 [7405b0-smp-linux-2.6.18-7.1] (local build)

190 seems a bit unreliable but 194 makes sense, e.g. current temp = 34Deg C
NOTES:- The Humax has only been on for 5 Mins.
/dev/sda = External USB drive (/dev/sdb = internal HDD)

This is the command I use:

smartctl -a /dev/sda

Works for me, but I don't use an external drive, just an 1TB internal that I fitted myself.

Code:
humax# smartctl -a /dev/sda
smartctl 5.41 2011-06-09 r3365 [7405b0-smp-linux-2.6.18-7.1] (local build)

FWIW, the Hummy had only just been powered on, hence the low HDD temp. I will leave it on now and check again later.

Yes it looks like -A = All Vendor Specific and -a = All
