Without relocating my router from upstairs to downstairs I cannot connect a intranet cable to the DTR-T1000. The plug into the mains units will not work as they are on two different ring main circuits. Would welcome any suggestions on a good effective dongle to connect to the USB port?

I believe it is possible to bridge rings on a HomePlug system. However, I have tried out an Ethernet WiFi bridge successfully - see HERE (click).
The WR702N has various operating modes, the default is to connect to an active Internet port and provide a personal WiFi hot-spot, but in your case you could make it provide an active Ethernet from your WiFi network. There are similar products which are dedicated to that function, and cheaper, but this one worked for me.
