From using it there seems to be some issues with it, it's not as accurate as the web version and is missing some fields and I was just wondering about taking a look at the code to see what it does.

It's the same utility that the web interface uses. JSON output may be missing some fields (and I can fix that if you tell me which ones) but can you provide any example where JSON output is less accurate than the web interface?

You can always see the raw extracted data using the dumpraw argument:

humax# epg -S<service ID> -E<event ID> dumpraw

for example.
