EPG goes blank

Thanks for your replies The EPG problem happened when the box had been on for at least an hour and not when first booted.
However its still behaving itself and didn't have any problems last night so hopefully it was the PSB2 problem, however if it does I will try tuning into PSB1 or PSB3 as Owen Smith suggested.
However I was more concerned about failing to record a pre-set programme or stopping recording part way through which seems to be fixed for now so maybe linked to the EPG.

The only small problem I have now is that it doesn't respond to the remote sometimes until its been on for 10 minutes or it responds right away and then after a short while stops responding for 10 min then starts again for the rest of the evening Its not the hand set as I've tried a different one

The first part is true, but the rest isn't. There is no download - it just arrives, constantly, and updates what's there. How it copes with invalid data arriving is rather unknown.

That of course depends on when the change to the schedule gets made. Quite often it is made quite late. Sometimes it's done retrospectively. The BBC are especially guilty of this around sporting events, particularly Wimbledon and Snooker.
When I said download I didn't mean from the internet, I meant that it downloads the data from the over-the-air multiplexes. This takes a while and the hummy has to update it when its copy becomes out of date. If you switch the hummy on and expect the EPG to be there immediately you may be disappointed. That's why it's a good idea to have it come on first thing in the morning.

I completely agree with prpr that if the schedule changes after the morning update the hummy will be unprepared and may not switch on in time to start monitoring for the program's code. The only solution would be to leave it on all the time but what a waste of energy!

I find that Channel 4 New is really bad at the program codes. We frequently see "0 minutes" and find that the program has actually gone out on time. :-C

That has happened to me and it was a bad block on the hard disc causing my HDR Fox T2 to take a very long time to read or write a sector with all the retries. Live TV picture on screen was fine all through this. I resolved it by running fix disk from the maintenance menu which took over sn hour but found and remapped the bad block.

I take downloading to me something requests something from somewhere. This is not how it works.

How does it know when it becomes out of date? By a replacement copy arriving (unsolicited, as it all is) that tells it the version number has changed, that's how. Try reading some of my recent posts. I think I know exactly how this stuff works.

And an increase in lifetime and general reliability. It depends what you value most.

Thanks for your reply I will try try the fix disk. I was thinking it was something to do with the IR receiver in the box
