I was under the impression that the software update for 1800/2000T was so that it did not matter if power saving in standby was 'on' or 'off'??

You were under the wrong impression then.

The software update was to make pass-through in standby on the 2000T work at all. Apparently prior to that there was no power saving setting in the menus (or so it has been said). The 1800T was never affected.
