FAQ: Glossary of Terms

I have done some technical writing in my time and if anyone misunderstands or is unclear about something then I always rewrite that phrase/sentence/paragraph - often several times.
Because I may know what I meant, but I am not the judge of what other people think I meant.

My suggestion for the case in question:
"the HD-FOX is also capable of recording, but needs an external HDD to do so."
Or if space is tight:
"the HD-FOX can record to an external HDD." (perhaps with an italic emphasis on the 'can')

And writing them in the English language is always an advantage for those not conversant in Latin.;)
But I'm with Mike, having been on the receiving end of unclear or mildly ambiguous tech literature. And I'm not talking about the appalling translations form Chinese to English, but stuff written by English nationals writing technical handbooks for British made equipment.
