thanks, do I need to add the URL or IP address somewhere in VLC settings? or should it automatically find the HUMAX on the local network when you click local network/plug and pray?

You can enter a URL but you can also select it from an on screen display (Under My-Video). I am told that with VLC 2.0.5 this has been made easier to find than with VLC 2.0.4

I wouldn't worry, the Humax doesn't need UPnP on your router. UPnP is a suite of protocols all designed to make things easier but there are lots of parts to it.

How about if you use the WebIF decrypt followed by WebIF "convert to mpg"? Can your smart TV play the resultant mpg file?

I cant see any option in webif to convert to mpg?

You need to have installed the ffmpeg package before the option will appear.

got it now, first decrypt then extract to mpeg.

How about if you use the WebIF decrypt followed by WebIF "convert to mpg"? Can your smart TV play the resultant mpg file?

resulting mpeg doesn't even show up on the smart tv
