fix-disk: sda1 - Unrecognised partition type

Oh right! Yes, this is still the original disk. I haven't made any hardware changes, the only modification I've done is installed the CF.
Can you try:
Code:
smartctl -i /dev/sda
The results do look strange, almost as if the disk is from a different manufacturer.

PS. Would I be correct in assuming that there is no external disk connected.

At this stage I think your best bet might be to either just replace the drive or
take it out and low level format it (do a search for mhdd - I think that should do it).
That tends not to be done much these days
but it looks like you've either crashed the drive or there's a serious format issue to me.
Otherwise I'd be reluctant to try and use it even if the humax does get it going from reading the thread.

Can you try:
Code:
smartctl -i /dev/sda
Sure thing, here's the output:
Code:
humax# smartctl -i /dev/sda
smartctl 5.41 2011-06-09 r3365 [7405b0-smp-linux-2.6.18-7.1] (local build)

Hi,

I'll be going away tomorrow for a few days for Xmas, but I'll pick this up again when I get back. Thanks so much to everyone for their help so far!

Merry Xmas!
