Flat motherboard battery?

I am I am that! But only just, I'm just starting second bout of cancer diagnosis since bladder cancer 2023.

Nice to see your'e still around and active here.

Time flies don't it? I've just realised the battery will be flat after all these years. I have 2 indentical boxes and one has not been used for 10 years or so. I just wondered if it may also be flat having not been powered. Anyway, I have 2 x 2032 batteries so will fit one in the un-used box and give the other box a rest. I cannot find anyone local who could make use of one so it will gather dust. (like me maybe lol)

You're missing the point: there isn't a battery (except in the RC handset). Check out https://hummy.tv/forum/threads/hdr-fox-hardware-commissioning-disassembly-repair.5728/.

The main processor has no idea of current time until it gets a DVB signal*. In stand-by, the main board is completely dormant except for UHF pass-through (if you have that enabled). Before going into stand-by, it sends a wake-up time to the front panel, which remains on power even in stand-by (but with the VFD on or off according to settings). At the wake-up, the main board checks the time, and actions whatever it is supposed to do at that time (as registered in the schedule).

If you remove the mains supply entirely, even the front panel has no idea of the current time. When you restore power, the HDR-FOX boots and checks what's what, updates the front panel from broadcast time, and then, if it's last known state was stand-by, goes back to sleep.

Later comment: everything else (ie settings) get stored on non-volatile memory, which does not require power (unlike the "CMOS" on older PC motherboards).

Sorry to hear about your problems.

[ * CF users can install a package to fetch Internet time, side-stepping the need to have a broadcast signal available. ]

So I found out when I opened it up. Don't know how I found a guide saying replace the 2032 battery. I had random loss of settings which set me on this path but searching the forum, I don't have the time to follow suggestions there. Decided to use the spare box and get on with my life. Cheers mate.

Yes I know you can but I forgot how so will look it up later. In the meantime I re-installed the same CFW and so far it's gone 1 day without losing settings. So wait and see.

I you are referring to, " I re-installed the same CFW" it means that I re-installed a copy of the latest CFW available, I forget which it was. Since that date it has behaved normally as it did before I started to get the 'lost settings' almost the day after updating them, certainly in a few days. Maybe over the years, and it is many years plus a house move since I updated the firmware, it had become corrupted. If it loses again I will post.

No, prpr is asking what "lost settings" means. Did you get the factory start-up wizard, where you have to go through tuning and configure the screen ratio etc etc?

The alternative is the WebIF lost its configuration, which would imply a HDD problem.

Yes, I had to do a full setup and as I type the box is still behaving and recording series as requested. The recording is it's main use as my smart TV, although with an external HD cannot record series. My wife must have her soaps. Btw, it appears my cancer is now terminal :-(
