Glitches in playback and problems with live pause

I've had alot of problems with playback of recordings over the last few weeks - heavy pixellation and skipping past several seconds of the programme. I've run fix-disk (the HDD is only 3 months old), but it didn't help.
In the meantime I also just had strange problem with pausing live TV - the pause button on the remote (both the Humax remote and my universal remote) wouldn't pause live TV. I tried pausing from the Web IF (I'm running the custom firmware), and that didn't work either.
Eventually I changed channels, then back to the original channel, and the problem went away.
I don't know if the above two problems are related, but has anyone else experienced this combination of issues?

Known bug: if you are watching a specific LCN (say 1), and select that LCN again (ie press 1 on the handset), TSR stops working. This might even be an undocumented feature to halt TSR activity to the HDD! It is corrected by changing channel (rather than reselecting the same channel.

Poor signal will have this effect, or maybe even excessive signal.

Ah that's interesting - I think I had done just that (re-entering the channel number) before the issue occurred.

On the signal issue - I carried out a controlled experiment by recording the same programme on both the Humax and an old Panasonic Bluray/PVR. Both use the same RF feed (the Panasonic takes its RF input from the RF output of the Humax). When I played back the programme on both devices, only the Humax had problems with pixellation and skipping forward a few seconds. Could this be an issue with the tuner in the Humax?

Probably not, what does Hidden Service Menu >> Signal Detection* report? There is no reason to presume different items of equipment have the same sensitivity and noise floor.

* Not Menu >> Settings >> System >> Signal Detection – the service menu** version provides testing of the two tuners independently.
