Hard Drive not formatted

Hi I have just registered as after a search of this forum using different wording I have not found what I was looking for, and this forum seems my best bet for advice or answers.
Sometime ago I got a friend of mine a 500gb T2 and replaced the HDD with a 2TB WD disk. I got an email about a week ago telling me the humax was saying the hard drive was not formatted. My friend used the humax to format the drive (I did question if it for matted OK as it was a 2TB disk. replied yes). the problem is I got an email last night saying the same thing.
I did not put a custom firmware on and I am working abroad so cannot just pop round to help. A easily explained result that I can pass on would be greatly appreciated.

The on-screen menus can not be used to format large disks. Here is a procedure which should work.

Thanks I was kind of hoping there would be a way without installing custom firmware as my mate is a bit of a chicken when it comes to that sort of thing.
I've emailed them to see if they want to go that route though.
