HDD must be formatted message after fix disk operation

I have an HDR FOX T2 with a 1GB disk which is nearly full. Recently it became stuck after starting a delete. It simply continues to show the message “deleting” all the time.

I updated the firmware to 1.03.12 without any effect, so installed custom firmware 1.03.12 Mod 3.10.

I then ran fix-disk in Maintenance Mode and answered Y to having problems with a delete loop. On completion I exited but when the Humax rebooted it came up with the message “HDD storage must be formatted”. In the storage section total storage of 0.0GB is shown.

I re-entered Telnet which shows “Some areas of the hard disk not mounted. Not all functions available (normal if you have just run a disk check)”

I presume the data is still present but how can I make it visible?

Try running fix-disk again.
Thank you Black Hole. I did as you suggested and the memory has been re-instated.

Just one further thing, if you don't mind. The short disk self test came up with an error at LBA 0 but instead of all the other lines shown in the example in your instructions it merely provided an invitation to repair "y/n" .

In the first instance I tried "y". It said the rewrite had suceeded but then repeated the error message so I allowed the fixdisk to complete then confirmed it had worked.

An error had also been reported at LBA 0 on the original fixdisk run. I wondered if the error could be significant, particularly in view of its location, or whether it is safe to ignore it. Given that the disk seems to be functioning properly I do not wish to take an action which may have the potential for undoing the good work done.

Regards and thanks for your help.

Can you cut ans paste the output from the web interface>Diagnostics>Disk diagnostics and then we can give you some informed advice.

Have done as suggested and report attached. It does not appear to be good. Sorry, the table format has been lost in pasting it.

The reallocated sector count of 3463 is high (although higher numbers have been reported) and I would suggest the hard drive should be replaced as soon as possible.

That disk is b*ggered. Copy off anything you want to keep (if you've managed to resurrect the filesystem), don't record to it and get a new disk ASAP.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice (and to Black Hole for pointing me to the section on pasting data). It has been a great help to someone new to exploring beyond the standard record and playback.

I shall now search the postings for info on disk replacement to ensure I follow the right course of action from here on.

I think that BH was actually cryptically inviting you to enclose your listing in a Code window so that it didn't take up about 10-15 screens full.;)
