Hi, I've never heard of HDHomeRun before today are you able to offer more information for a newcomer?

What HDHomeRun would I need to achieve recording etc. There is a "HDhomeRun 'CONNECT" on ebay at the moment, what would that be capable of?

I have the HDHomeRun Connect Quatro with 4 tuners so capable of watching/recording from 4 Mux simultaneously
Unlike the humax products it does not connect to the TV via HDMI cable instead you access it via network.
It does not have inbuilt Disk so need external NAS or USB disk for recording.
The free app allows for limited recording capability but for full recording capability you need to either subscribe to their DVR software or use an alternative; I use free DVRonTime but others use Channels DVR

I use the HDHomeRun DVR software with both of my HDHomeRun Connect Quatro devices.
 
Ditto. Connected to my NAS. ChannelsDVR is my program of choice but as I have mentioned before, it is subscription based. For me it is well worth it. To date the combination of the HDHomeRun hardware and ChannelsDVR software has worked very reliably.

Yeah I also use Channels DVR (running on my Synology NAS) with HD Homerun Connect Quatro's. I was using DVROnTime but had issues after the NUC pc that ran it was upgraded to windows 11. Channels has proven to be very reliable.
 
Unfortunately Channels DVR does not work with my WD MyCloud NAS, it says this on their web site:-

"MyCloud Home devices are not able to run Channels DVR anymore after an OS upgrade in 2022"
 
If did run ChannelsDVR on a Pi4 for an age without issue. However, I had a separate HDD enclosure (powered) to store recordings etc. I also configured the Pi to boot/run off a NVMe (SSD) drive as I believe the the constant read/writes it the standard SD card setup could result in premature failure of the SD card.

I migrated from the Pi to my QNAP NAS, simply because I could.

Just do what I do, and connect a portable HDD to the HDHomeRun.

Yes, as you have to connect the HDHomeRun device to your network via Ethernet, as it doesn’t support WiFi.

My recordings can be accessed via the HDHomeRun app, and I have that on a FireTV Stick connected to all of my TVs, I can also use the app to access recordings on my phones, tablets, PCs, Laptops, and pretty much anything else that connects to my network.

There is a HDHomeRun add on for Kodi, so you could use that as well.

I can’t say whether this would all work using Channels DVR software, as I don’t use this, but other forum members do use it, so may be able to add to this.
