HDR-1800T blue light of death?

Hello,
My HDR-1800T 500GB seems to have died after a few years. (It replaced a 320GB one which I luckily kept, and have gone back to!)

The 500GB shows the blue light constantly, and will not respond to any input from the remote or front panel. It is not sending any TV to my screen, but does intermittently display the Humax splash screen.

I have tried disconnecting / reconnecting it to the electricity, but it just goes straight back to 'blue light on - no response - no picture'.

I am unable to connect it to any computer diagnosis. Anything else I could try?

(This thread is obviously related to my recent compatibility post.)

Ahh, OK I'll try that later this week.

Having perused the forum I wonder if it may unhappy be because I had let the HDD fill to over 90%.

More questions will follow after I try to work it without the HDD connected.

Thanks, for now!

Today I disconnected the HDD and plugged in the 1800T 500GB.

It worked!
The red light reappeared, it responded to the remote, the tuner worked, TV received pictures.
I then unplugged it, reconnected the HDD, plugged it back in - return of the "blue light of death".

So yes, the Western Digital 500GB HDD is the thing to blame.

I am now tempted to source a Terabyte HDD...
I am thinking of unbolting that 'black sled' holding the HDD, take it to a 'Global Links' shop and see if they can sell me something that will fit and use the same cabling.

Is there any reason not to try and do that?
What should I ask for if I do try that?
