HDR-FOX-T2 not seeing firmware file on the flash stick, and a "Russ Andrews upgraded" unit with fake boards added

.. and given that the other board has ‘silencer’ printed on it then it is probably the case-less version of this.

I can’t help but wonder why the boards weren’t installed in the cases. That would have at least provided somewhat better mains safety isolation if nothing else.

Because quite obviously these people don't give a t0ss about anything or anybody. Their whole business (well except the wooden hifi stands) is built on deception, and they 100% know it.

The problem is that a lot of this is ‘fools and their money’ and bragging rights at the end of the day. If someone states that they can hear (or see) a difference having spent £1000 on a mains lead then no-one else can prove otherwise, even if it’s actually just a placebo effect. Independent technical measurements indicating no difference can always be challenged as not sensitive enough compared to what the human ear or eye can perceive. That being the case the buyer is happy, the business is happy, and it just carries on. It’s all subjective even though we all know it’s very silly.

I would be interested to hear what @Newcoppiceman thinks of it.
When time allows I'll explore this thread in more detail but those first three pictures at #31 are very concerning - they demonstrate worst practice and an unhealthy disregard for the potentially lethal effects of mains voltages. There are too many howlers to list.

That "silencer" mod looks akin to those boxes that are flogged on the pretence that they'll reduce your electricity bills - and bought by people who think a gold-plated aerial connector makes a real difference to their pictures.

Having been electrocuted by UK mains three times (only one of which was my own damned stupid fault), it bloody well hurts!

I know someone online in the US who puts magnets in all his mains sockets and lifts all his speaker cables off the floor on little trestles to improve the sound. Apart from that he's a thoroughly nice chap!
