HDR FOX T2: Optical

can someone please confirm, the red light from the Optical port at the back of the box, is it always on? or is it only on when something is being broadcast in HD Dolby digital? i just got my box from Humax repairs and the Optical port has no light! for the record i have the latest firmware update!
 
It's the laser output and it's on whenever the box is switched on i.e. not in standby . The sprung cover on the socket is pushed back by insertion of the plug but the red laser is visible around the edges of the cover before insertion.

Edit: Says on DS it's not a laser but an LED

Thats what I thought. But is this the case on hunax HDR t2 with the latest firmware? I'm only asking cos it's baffling me as I'm sure it was working fine when I sent it for repairs to humax. Dam u pathetic Humax
 
Mine is an HDR T2 1TB with the latest firmware. The box gives Dolby Digital through a Yamha surround system when it's broadcast and Pro Logic at other times.
