HDR-Fox T2 picture quality just got worse

The picture quality from my HDR Fox T2 has just got worse, and I can't figure out why. I haven't changed anything for months (it's connected via HDMI cable to a Samsung UE46F7000 LED HD TV). The lettering in the EPG looks much fainter and less sharp (furry even) than it did earlier in the week, and the HD picture is less sharp than that from the TV's own tuner (it used to be slightly better).

Any ideas?

Somebody pressed the VFormat button on the Humax remote and selected a low resolution mode?
