HDR FOX T2 with blown capacitor?

My HDR power supply has blown a capacitor (I think - see centre of IMG_6037.JPGpicture). I assume that this is easy to replace if you know what you are doing?

Any ideas about what sort it is so that I can get it replaced? Any help gratefully received.

See this post for information another member recently provided.
Thanks for the link you provided. It does appear to be the same problem and provides circuit diagrams. I am not an electronics engineer, just someone who hates throwing thigs away when they stop working. I will get it looked at by someone who does know what they are doing!

Especially for a component that costs less than 20p.

Good idea. It's easy for someone with the kit, the eyesight and knows how to do it safely.
Do let us know how you get on.

I failed to find anyone locally that was prepared to remove the fried capacitor and fit a new one. So I ordered some off Bitsbox and did it myself - I am a cr*p solderer so it looks awful, but hey ho it worked. I can now use my Humax box again. Thanks for all your advice.

That is sadly the situation these days, repair shops barely exist any more. Fortunately I'm pretty competent at soldering at least for through hole components. I'm rather shaky on surface mount though.

Moot point now but it might have been worth looking for a local "repair cafe" event - not tried it myself (yet)

Those annoy me. I understand the philosophy of trying to reduce waste by repairing rather than dumping, but they are also doing for free (using volunteer labour) what somebody ought to be earning a living at, and making it impossible so to do even if somebody were willing to start up.

Too many thing these days are not economicaly repairable, except at a Repair cafe.
No one is going to spend more than an item costs new to have someone attempt a repair that may not provide a long term solution.
