Help required as to my Humax box and what to do with it

I bought the Humax HDR-FoxT2 many years ago to use myself but ended up lending it to my son for about 5 years then got it back from him as I had spent a lot of money on it and wanted to use it myself. I then hooked it up to my TV and it worked fine but then I disconnected it as I bought a sound bar and there was no room for the Humax on my TV stand as well so I thought I will get round to using it again one day and kept it carefully wrapped up. However it switches on and I have connected it to the same TV which is a Panasonic TX40D LED Viera not a Smart TV but it worked before with the same setup, now nothing happens on the screen on the TV. Do I have to update it to get it to work again and if so what do I need to do. When its switched on it all seems to work it lights up and it says BBC London so its picking up something? but on the AV screen on the TV nothing comes up at all. I don't have or want to stream TV I am happy with Freeview so want to make the most of it before that disappears.

I would appreciate any help as to what I need to do to get it working. If any update is required I would need step by step advice as I am not computer savvy. Thank you.

connected it to the same TV
Please describe the connection setup that you are using and include in your description the HDMI cable.

Also explain what happens when you have switched your TV to the correct HDMI for the Humax if you then see the Humax menu when you press the MENU button on the remote.

It probably just needs a retune.
Go to Menu, Settings, System, System Information and report the Software Version - hopefully it says FHTCP 1.03.12, if not then it's probably worth updating.
Then Menu, Settings, Installation (& Enter the PIN - default is 0000), Automatic Search to initiate the retune.
You may want to consider the Factory Default option as well.

(If this is an HDR, then you've posted in the wrong section - the HD one. Please confirm which is correct, as it affects the software version number to expect.)

As above, please confirm the actual unit (HD-FOX vs HDR-FOX) so we can put this in the right category (presuming it's not already).

Not necessarily, the station displayed merely indicates what it was tuned to last. I take it your son lives in the London area – where do you live?

but on the AV screen on the TV nothing comes up at all
If it were operating correctly, there would be either the live TV on-screen, or an on-screen message saying why there is nothing (else) being displayed. This indicates your TV is not, in fact, displaying the output from the HDR-FOX, or the HDR-FOX is not outputting anything at all (ie broken). To confirm, pressing the Menu butting should produce something.

I don't have or want to stream TV
Like many of us. The HDR-FOX used to be able to access a few things like BBC iPlayer, but no longer works (cannot keep up with modern standards).

Pinner, apparently, so I guess Crystal Palace as well rather than a relay, but I'm not familiar with the terrain.

But so much (typical) ambiguity in the original post...
"hooked it up" - how?
"nothing happens on the screen on the TV" - nothing? Does the TV indicate no input, or is it just completely black (or green)? What happens if you press the Mute button? Is there an icon? What about the Humax splash screen when turning it on from cold? Is the button ring blue or red etc. (assuming it's an HDR)?
"it says BBC London" - what does? The display on the front, or on-screen if pressing the "i" button?

People should remember that nobody else can see what you can see, and write accordingly.

I have discovered (in other completely different situations) people don't have an eye for detail. Ask them to put out some tables and chairs and they will be higgledy-piggledy, not tidy straight lines because they don't even notice.

Unfortunately we have to accept they're doing their best, and we have to take pity and read between the lines.

it says BBC London
I think we can reasonably assume that means on the front panel display, ie the VFD.

As nothing appears on your AV screen, double check you're monitoring the correct AV channel on the TV.
Make sure the connections are secure and plugged in properly.
If you're using HDMI, use another socket. Lower the HDMI compatibility mode - set to HDMI 1.x.
If that doesn't work, change the type of connecting cable eg from HDMI to SCART.

That the Humax was lent to ShayC's son is a bit of a red hearing. In the opening post ShayC stated that he used it OK on the same TV that he has now after his son retuned the Humax to him.
... got it back from him ... . I then hooked it up to my TV and it worked fine ....

(Bear in mind that Shay is probably more likely to be a female name than male in the UK (according to big G).)

Anyway, the "BBC London" thing is another ambiguity since the names are "BBC ONE Lon" and "BBC ONE Lon HD" as far as I know.
We don't know which of these it was tuned to. If the latter, then it could still be on the pre-regionalised BBC ONE HD setup, which will of course output black as that service is no longer being broadcast. If attempts were made to view other channels, then that wasn't mentioned.

Thank you for your prompt response. After reading through all the responses and after checking all the connections and going by the suggestions it appears to be working okay now. I actually don't know what I did differently this time although it was possibly the aerial connection that was wrong but it all seems to be working now. Thank you for your help.

Things I never thought I'd hear.

Welcome.
Thank you.

Thank you for the information about the re-tune - I have got to the system information page and it says update date 07 Feb 2014 and it also says FHTCP 1.03.12. So I assuming that means I don't need to re-tune.

Thank you everyone, it appears to be working fine now, much appreciated all the comments and apologies if my first post was misunderstood in any way. I was in a rush to post before I went to work so it could have been worded better. Very nice to know there are people out there willing to assist with things like this and I without this forum I would probably have got rid of it. By the way I am female! Thanks again..
