HMT file format

The Series/Episode numbers aren't (at the moment) unless you are using TheTVDB.

Series/season and episode numbers are written to the synopsis, are they not? Nowhere else to put them. Some broadcasts/broadcasters include them (instance: most programmes on Sky Mix), so yes they are.

Where is the synopsis stored then? It pops up if you highlight a recording and press "i".
It is in the .HMT file.
There is a lot in there - including shoeboxes for the Episode number, Total episodes etc .... just not populated AFIACS.
I'm not even sure if the HMT is simply a dump of an info package as transmitted or somehow built for several by the SW on the Humax

It looks like ITV2/3/4, 4, 5 write episode number in the synopsis. ITV1 less so. BBC - varies, as far as I can tell nothing or "1/6" for episode and no series.

Built by the Humax SW. The .hmt file also contains various flags indicating the state of the recording which can't possibly be transmitted (eg. "power failure" - how would the broadcaster know?)

agreed - but those fields may be transmitted unpopulated or the file format created by Humax and then they decided it was too tricky filling them in.

I can't be bothered to explain. Read the HMT file format page if you want to know.
WebIf update released (1.5.4-3) to extract the detail from the synopsis, if present, and populate the defined fields in the HMT.
