HomePlug With More Than One Ethernet Port

but an Ethernet switch might be more economical (if you can spare another mains socket for its inevitable wall wart).

I'd looked into how to get more ethernet sockets and I have googled "USB powered ethernet switch" and there are some out there - if it's spare you could power it off the Hummys USB socket?

I wouldn't have thought that was that good an idea unless you never let the box go in to standby. See this thread:

http://hummy.tv/forum/threads/webif-stopped-working.1082/

in which Ezra talks about creating a bodged power LED by using the USB rail. That could only work if USB powered down in standby. Mind you - you probably can't stream from the HDR if it's in standby can you? Hmmm...

The power to the USB sockets definately turns off when the unit is in standby, As you say it would not be possible to use the Humax LAN connector in standby either, but I am guessing that the idea of having a LAN hub is that there would be other things that will need LAN access when the Humax is in standby

There are 3-port HomePlugs, I've been looking at using one, but an Ethernet switch might be more economical (if you can spare another mains socket for its inevitable wall wart).

Yes the Devolo dLAN 500 AVTriple looks very nice but quite expensive...

I had spotted the Netgear 200Mbps 4-port Powerline Adapter which seems to be at a reasonable price on ebuyer (£37)

have my pc and fox connected 'locally' at the switch which is the point :)

about 10mb/s to download something not encrypted or upload... and 5 megabyte/s as something decrypts first (most things)

Just spotted a full-page ad for this in PCPlus - http://www.devolo.co.uk/consumer/90_dlan-500-avtriple_starter-kit_product-presentation_1.html?l=en - and it ticks all my boxes (triple Ethernet port and pass-through mains)... all except PoE anyway!

£120 on Amazon (starter kit comprising one single-port + pass-through mains for the router end and one triple-port + pass-through mains for the remote end).

I use an Edimax WiFi extender c/w five ethernet ports. One port connects to a BT Homeplug (supplied with BT vision box) to link up to BT Homehub upstairs. This gives me 4 ethernet ports plus WiFi at the main tv location and its various input devices. Ethernet via cat5 to TV, Bluray, Humax plus WiFi for Wii, various smartphones (home and visitors), this laptop where I am now typing, two internet radios, and Kindle. Phew!

The WiFi signal from the Edimax fills a blind spot at the back of the house that the Homehub struggles to reach.

The Edimax was around £25 IIRC. Titchy little thing that sits perched out of sight behind the bluray player. I'm not sure of the model as I can't get at it easily. It was a bit of a fiddle to set up at first but once set happily left alone to do its thing, as always RTFM applies. The current model on the edimax site closely resembling the functionality would appear to be EW-7209APg.
