Humax Aura Rebooting 3 or 4 Times a Day!

Hi, I'm a very frustrated new member to this forum.

I purchased two Humax Aura boxes a couple of years ago, one for my wife so she can watch or record her dramas etc, and one for me so I can watch or record sport and documentaries in the other room.

Since purchasing them, both boxes have suffered rebooting and recording failures every few days, and now my box is rebooting up to 3 or 4 times per day.

Do you think these problems will ever be fixed, or should I start looking for more reliable alternative boxes. 🙁

should I start looking for more reliable alternative boxes.
Good luck finding one!

In theory, maybe. In practice, don't hold your breath!
We are awaiting an update, due on the 12th of Never, correcting we don't know what.

Your box shouldn't reboot 3 or 4 times a day - what are you doing, if anything, when it reboots?
Recordings fail for many reasons - what sort of failure are you talking about?

Other than just turning the box on and watching tv, nothing that should cause it to reboot 3 or 4 times a day, I switched it on about 10am this morning and it's only rebooted once so far, but I'm pretty sure it will reboot at least one more time by this evening.
I suppose the failed recordings is because the box has rebooted whilst recording.

I had the first reboot on my Aura that I can ever remember last week but I have noticed the once every month or two failed recordings due to loss of signal have now become a much more regular thing, I had two yesterday evening, one on ITV1sd which failed before starting to record whilst I was watching that channel live without issue and the other 5 hours later on BBC2sd.

Unless my Aura has hardware that is different to either BrianD or trog then (fingers crossed) as I'm not getting these problems what am I doing that could be different?

I've made sure that the channels I use are from the correct transmitter. I've hidden all the channels I'll never use on the Aura - Internet only, Adult, most shopping channels and Radio1*.
I usually don't have the Aura connected to the internet (it's connected to a LAN that most of the time has no access to the internet). My Aura's usual internet connection, when used, is WiFi.
I've set two daily timers - one switches to BBC One SD at ~05:15 (brings it out of standby) and the other to ch 250 at ~07:00 where it stays unless I actively set it to standby. When I've finished with it for the day I turn to BBC One SD and then set it to standby. I use padding for recordings not AR.

Whether any/some/none of these make a difference I don't know.

Who knows? Like many Aura issues they seem not to be uniform, they affect random channels on various groupings and rather that being constant at regular intervals they behave like buses, many in a short period then none for ages. I do keep my Aura on constant standby, never use WiFi or Bluetooth , I am constantly hard wired to the internet ( The only item I own that is WiFi enabled is my mobile phone and its only enabled to get free data and not connected to any other devices) but use AR usually with series record. I only work from an extensive favourites list that is the default list when I choose guide on the remote , no adult, shopping only, bible bashing, Pay and internet sites plus many radio sites and news sites excluded.

I only use it to watch and record so why would doing all the things you mention stop it from rebooting regularly?

I did not suggest they would. I was replying to EEPhil's post who was wondering if the reason for him never having the issue was due to him doing something different to those who are having the issue. You may be able draw your own conclusions if you say and other mention their own set up and a common denominator is found. If you are hoping for someone to give you an instant cure you are out of luck as the problem has been around for a long time and is quite common , even asking Humax support will only get you the generic answers that cure nothing.

Factory reset usually. And if you do the wrong reset you lose proper access to your recordings.. If things go really wrong you lose the recordings altogether.

I've done a couple of factory resets in the past and it only seemed to fix the problem for a couple of days and then it started rebooting again.
Judging by all the comments and the previous posts that I've read, I get the impression that the Aura is not really fit for purpose and that Humax don't seem to care. 🙁

It has been suggested elsewhere that a failing power supply could be responsible for causing this sort of behaviour, but this could simply be speculation.

There has also been mentions of replacing the Humax 2.0A power supply with alternatives of anything up to 5.0A.

Buy a couple of second hand HDR Fox T2s on ebay and install the custom firmware on them that this forum makes available. They're vastly more reliable Freeview HD recorders. If you are worried about their age, buy three they're not expensive.
