Thanks. And As soon as I posted my question I realised that it must be in the spec section!
As recording is clearly one of those features that would be adequate to cover themselves. Also they make no mention whether it does or does not record Freely which seems like a blatant attempt to deceive people into thinking it does, the nearest thing to saying it does not seems to be "Access additional features and settings outside of the Freely interface"
Yes those are covered by the "outside of the Freely interface" that I mentioned. Of course they have covered their butt if challenged but that does in no way excuse what seems to be a blatant attempt to gold plate aAs recording is clearly one of those features that would be adequate to cover themselves.
There are also hints e.g. The separate epg called "Recording Guide". The epg depicted in the recording section of the manual is of the freeview channel list, not the freely channel list.
by making vague hints as to its inabilities to be a Freely recorder whilst naming it as one and I hope you are not defending them for doing so.Personally I’m not rushing out to buy one, for two reasons.I will wait for the early adopters to try it, and give their opinions before I even think about it.![]()
At only £69.99 for Freely + the extra channels that a TiVo OS brings + Netflix , Disney+ etc adding it to an existing PVR looks like a much better option than £249 to get less bolted onto a box that may be almost the same as an updated Aura that you already own and if the Aura update turns out to be the promised Android 14 it will be even more of a deal breaker compared to the 6000T's Android 12 OS.Personally I’m not rushing out to buy one, for two reasons.
1. The immanent arrival of the Manhattan S4-R and Aero.
2. The upcoming update for the current Aura that will include the Freely app, IMO.
Being TiVo if you use Now and some others you will be out of luck but other than that I agree and why I’ll be getting an Aero before an EZ.At only £69.99 for Freely + the extra channels that a TiVo OS brings + Netflix , Disney+ etc adding it to an existing PVR looks like a much better option than £249 to get less bolted onto a box that may be almost the same as an updated Aura that you already own and if the Aura update turns out to be the promised Android 14 it will be even more of a deal breaker compared to the 6000T's Android 12 OS.
It has RF in and outs for aerial leads, so it is both Freeview and Freely, from the manual I think you can only record from the Freeview/ aerial inputs.Being TiVo if you use Now and some others you will be out of luck but other than that I agree and why I’ll be getting an Aero before an EZ.
Why would you “Go aerial and dish-free with Freely” with this box, it would make it a VERY expensive Freely box? Assuming it can’t record from Freely as neither Richer Sounds description or the Humax manual specifically states if it can or not, my money is on it can’t.
Other than maybe security what would a PVR (as apposed to a phone) benefit from Android 14 over 12.
I think, but obviously don't know, it can record those channels that are currently recordable on Freeview. The fact that instructions are given on how to disable the Freely app might mean it would operate as a current PVR. If it doesn't then what is it? A brick? A media server?Assuming it can’t record from Freely as neither Richer Sounds description or the Humax manual specifically states if it can or not, my money is on it can’t.
I agree. Just that Humax can't or won't mention Freeview. It has RF in and outs for aerial leads, so it is both Freeview and Freely, from the manual I think you can only record from the Freeview/ aerial inputs.
There is no specific mention of being able to record from the Freely stream.
Humax's promised Aura update from Android 9 to 14 is claimed to not only make improvements but also cure some of its issues, of course this may just be snake oil but if true then who can say that 14 will not be an improvement over 12 for the Aura and even if not it may fend off compatibility issues of apps for longer that the future presents.Other than maybe security what would a PVR (as apposed to a phone) benefit from Android 14 over 12.
You said not having Android 14 was "a deal breaker" so I wanted to know from a PVR point of view what exactly will be missing to make it this.Humax's promised Aura update from Android 9 to 14 is claimed to not only make improvements but also cure some of its issues, of course this may just be snake oil but if true then who can say that 14 will not be an improvement over 12 for the Aura and even if not it may fend off compatibility issues of apps for longer that the future presents.
Neither have I. Let me guess, the bonus perk might be the ability to swap between streaming services without having to change app. (ie. don't need to crash out of iPlayer then start up ITVX)I'm a Freeview user and I haven't been asking for this premium bonus perk, whatever it is.
Might be pairing the remote by Bluetooth. More likely it means the use of a phone app to set schedules remotely."Remote control technology" coo that sounds new and innovative!
Or, as I might put it, beef droppings! The whole thing is of course junk churned out by journalists, probably recycled from some press release or similar.
Well, it could mean the ability to single frame forwards or backwards, play at twice the speed, or whatever, but it won't.What does "playback controls" mean?
Perhaps you can't record it but can play it back. Not much point being able to record stuff if you can't replay it

I did not think life could get any better after the prime video, Kids, the big F ,Top picks and Live TV ext buttons on my Aura remote (none of which I ever use) but having a bespoke Freely button is truly a dream come true (nobody ever said or will ever say).View attachment 7704

What I was trying to say was releasing a new product with possibly a more archaic OS than a model released years ago now has ( if it happens ) will be another reason to avoid getting one and seeking Freely elsewhere if you want it.You said not having Android 14 was "a deal breaker" so I wanted to know from a PVR point of view what exactly will be missing to make it this.
