Humax FHR-6000T Will this need its own listing in the forum? ( Now named the Aura EZ 4K Freely Recorder)

I always disable that! But I am a control freak and dislike any computer based system doing things I don't want. Automatic deletion is a definite no-no!
I have got a Fox T2, a 5000T, a Manhattan T4-R 2TB and a Humax Aura 2TB all full of programmes I want to watch. I just have the 5000T and the EZ plugged in at the moment, all the others are in a stack behind the TV. I am definitely a hoarder.

Not quite at your level but heading that way. I am going with my theory that each year there is an increase in dross aired with less on that is worth watching so eventually it will get so bad that I will need all my saved content as there will be nothing of interest to me broadcast. I am also relying on the answer to eternal life being found or at least doubling life expectancy to prove my theory to be correct.

I’ve not too much faith in your hope of the secret to eternal life being discovered in the near future, though perhaps there is more chance of that than of Humax releasing a fully fault-tested update to either of their Auras.
TBH I find the programmes I record are classics from the past (Talking Pictures/Rewind/U&Yesterday). These days most of the water-cooler programmes are on Netflix etc which I don’t want to subscribe to (because I’m mean). I know there are streaming services for channels like Talking Pictures but tbh I can’t be bothered with it, and the pure joy of skipping through adverts a minute at a time never diminishes.

Streaming services for BBC, ITV, and 4: most programmes hang about for a long time (year+). 5 and U: Not sure. TPTV: a week for many items. Only one episode of a series.

I find it's better to record from Freeview. If I've missed something on BBC then the known methods for saving things from iPlayer come in to play.

I did try recording stuff from 4's streaming service using the RCA output on a 5000T into a TV dongle on my computer. It worked, but the 'king ads and end cut-off p'd me off.Have to find a better way to watch/save Walter Presents!

If only you realised it is in one of those programmes you've got squirrelled away... but how to find it, when it will take eternal life to trawl for it?

Maybe other people have a better filing system than me. It would take me ages to find a specific programme if it isn't part of a well-known (to me at least) series. Must weed out some of the duplicates!

So many programmes, so little time…

Yesterday I tried to scan for new Freeview channels. I’m 95% certain that I selected Smart Scan. Guess what happened. All my scheduled recordings got wiped and I’ve only just found out.
This EZ is definitely the least user friendly box I have ever used.

From the boxes I've had the user-friendliness and the user manual quality have declined over time.

I always make a note or take photos of the schedule before any scan. Then I (nearly) always check the schedule after the scan and repair the damage. If I forget you can guarantee that something I really wanted to watch goes missing! (I blame Murphy, he was a sod!)

Yes, I’ve done that before but this time I was lured in by the Smart Scan button and had too much confidence. I will take photos next time. Unlike previous boxes, with this if you look for a programme on the guide with the search button you can’t just press record - instead it takes you to the right channel but then you have to turn through page after page of the guide until you reach whatever you want to record. Or I suppose you could use the calendar if you remember what day it’s on. It’s a bit dim tbh.

I think they just developed a Freely box and tacked on a very basic Freeview recorder onto it afterwards to create a unique (but quite underdeveloped) selling point. They’d better sort it out quick because it seems hardly anyone has got a good word to say about it, so if anyone does any research on line they’ll just buy something else.

More fool them then. I just saved almost £400 by buying the exact same 3 items from another online supplier rather than Currys ( In store or online) plus an extra £60 as they delivered free where as Currys charge £20 per item.

And the younger population couldn't give a damn, they just use their phones for everything.
Unfortunately I'm almost the same. I've gone from no mobile phone to nearly everything on my phone in the last few years. What with digital loyalty cards and NFC it's sometimes easier to get the phone out rather than rummage through my pockets to find bits of plastic or notes/coins.

I thought current Freeview boxes are supposed to retain the recording schedule across a retune? The HDR Fox T2 doesn't (without help from custom firmware) but it's an old box.

Perhaps, but that's what the general (older) population are used to and do. Whether it's any good is less relevant than how easily available. And the younger population couldn't give a damn, they just use their phones for everything.
As I am retired and part of the older population unless I am unique I have to disagree and I also think older people would not give it a second look and will be the last demographic willingly wanting Freely. I agree the young will have no interest with the middle aged being the main buyers and I assume they also are the ones most likely to research before buying.

unless I am unique
You're not unique, you are interested enough to be part of this community – but that by no means represents the majority of the public. It is a fallacy to consider what you would do to be representative of a population.

Is it not just as much of a fallacy to consider that what I do is not what many even possibly the majority of people my age would do.
