I'm not sure it matters. If it doesn't actually go to court one can't really claim that it was settled under any law.
For many suppliers the fact you are prepared to start quoting 'legal' stuff in pursuit of (allegedly) faulty goods will be sufficient for them to settle rather than engage in a protracted dispute. I suspect that in many cases quoting an out of date or even inappropriate consumer law would be sufficient to show that you mean business.
