Yes, you can have ever you want in the background.. apart from a recording - although even that might be possible if you dig in to it far enough - not many have tinkered with the portal in great depth.

You wont be able to get to the EPG or any Humax menus though without exiting.

Using the portal as a means of informing your relative of an incoming phone call will presumably void any possibility of the current program being paused or rewound.
Could be a bit annoying when the call happens to be a junk call in the middle of the final episode of an exciting serial ...

Not necessarily true. The buttons can be mapped. It just needs testing to see if it works before writing it off.
