iPlayer downloads onto Fox T2 stall, never get going.

I tried to download Wolf Hall episodes onto my HDR-T2 using the custom firmware download feature and copying and pasting the link from the iPlayer site. This has worked in the past, but the download never gets going.

If I click on the episode in iPlayer, a dialogue opens asking me to confirm I have a tv licence, which I do have. Now, I suspect the problem I’m seeing is that the same dialogue is “popping up” inside the downloader, but there isn’t a way of telling it I do have a licence. So the download stalls at this hurdle.

That’s my presumption, anyway.

If correct, is there a way to overcome this hurdle?

Works fine for me, and I haven't done anything extra concerning a licence query response. I never have needed to when using the youtube-dl HDR package.

Unfortunately you haven't given much away concerning how you are attempting to download. Here a few guesses and suggestions:
  • Check the URL you are using, and post the URL(s) in this thread.
  • Check which version of youtube-dl you are using, make sure it the latest, and post the version on this thread.
  • Check which option you are selecting when you enter the download request I.e. "Run Download now" or "Run Download in background" and then check, what ever you are then look at to check the download, take a screen shot and post it on this thread with which option you were using.
  • If you haven't already done so, post a screen shot of why you think that "the download never gets going".
  • If using "Run Download in background" check whether you are using "ASAP" or selecting a time when you submit the request.
  • If using "Run Download in background" check your Auto-Processing Settings.
  • If using "Run Download in background" and if haven't already done so check the check your Queued Tasks list and whether any other tasks are being executed OK, and report your findings.
  • If using "Run Download in background" try "Run Download now" instead and post a screen shot of what happens.
  • Post in this thread whether you have successfully downloaded from iPlayer before this attempt onto your HDR T2.

Thank you so much for such a quick and comprehensive reply. I will work through your suggestions and report back.

'It' works for me too.
As above, and report the versions of packages/firmware in use. Standard stuff really.
Oh, and post in the Customised section of the forum.

Sorry, it’s been ages since I was last here, so I’m very rusty, but when you say post in the Customised section of the forum, can you be more specific because I figured this forum - HD/HDR Fox T2 Customised Firmware - was the most appropriate?

Many thanks.

It seems to be good now.

Here’s my Youtube package

This time I left it for an hour. Between 17:10 and 17:58, I was seeing nothing, whereas I would previously see frequent updates giving the percentage downloaded.

I guess I’ll just have to be more patient in future.

Thank you both.

Yes, something changed and it no longer logs progress. It wasn't great filling the log with reports, but on the other hand some indication of progress would be welcome.

I guess this thread has been moved since the first post.

Many thanks: that explains it. Serves me right: I find that with all the diverse forums I want to follow, i.e. tig welding, router custom firmware, PicoScope, Rover, the Humax custom firmware forums for Foxsat and Fox T2 HDRs, I find I start to drift away, especially when things are going well, so it’s invariably a rapid, bumpy refresher learning curve when I revisit one I’ve neglected.

I sometimes keep an eye on progress in the download folder by using an ftp client such as Filezilla. The WebIf doesn't show the downloaded file(s) until they are completed.

Smart! I wouldn’t have thought of that in a million years. Works a treat. Thank you!
