Is installing SSD an extravagance or technically inappropriate?

I would like to replace the hard disk in my HDR T2 with a Solid State Drive (SDD) for three reasons:
1. Reduce noise (the fan would be only remaining moving part)
2. Reduce heat (the fan would seldom, if ever, speed up.)
3. I do not need a lot of storage space.

But I am aware that SSDs have limited write cycles. How big a problem is this likely to be in practice?
Would the choice of SSD be materially important (e.g. Samsung 840 Evo versus 840 Pro).

If a SSD is technically inappropriate, would a Western Digital Red 2.5 inch HDD be a better compromise?
