Issues after crash: cannot view recordings; cannot see other Humax disk

I have two HDR-Fox T2, connected through a network switch; let's call them A and B. In May B suffered and recovered from a crash. Since that happened, B has the following issues:
  1. Recordings on B do not play (though they seem to start, nothing show); the error message is "The channel is scrambled or not available."
    1. But A can play these files through Media ->Storage ->USB
  2. B cannot see the files of A anymore through Media->Storage (as USB does not show)
I checked the Menu ->Settings against the two boxes and they look the same. They both run FHTCP 1.03.12. The issues seem unrelated, though maybe the crash links them, so I put them on one thread and I can split if asked.

Re 1. I did a search on the forum and found a thread that points to HDD failure, but why would that not affect remote playing on box A? The WebIF diagnostics on B read thus:

Re 2. I could not find anything relevant on search.

Any help will be most appreciated.

Recordings on B do not play (though they seem to start, nothing show); the error message is "The channel is scrambled or not available."
This is typical of a HDR-FOX having forgotten its decryption key. A reboot normally sorts it. While in this state, old recordings won't play but new ones will. Once rebooted, the old recordings play again but the intermediate recordings (recorded with the wrong key) won't.

But A can play these files through Media ->Storage ->USB
I wouldn't expect that, unless...

Have you given these units matching keys using the WebIF? If so, and unit B has now in fact reverted to its original key, unit A still has the custom key and can still decrypt the old recordings made with that key. In which case the thing to do is investigate why the custom key no longer applies to unit B.

For the umpteenth time in so many years, thanks for making time for my queries. Indeed B had its default key. On box B, I pasted in Settings->Advanced Settings->Encryption Key->Custom encryption key the box A key and rebooted box B using the WebIF; it still will not play my test files. Is this kind of reboot sufficient? Any other suggestions perhaps?

Did you run the fix-flash-packages diagnostic?
You probably need to install (or force reinstall) the virtual-disk2 package to make the USB work again (not that you said how the two devices link via USB).

Sure, but I don't know whether that's an error condition or the correct situation. Hard to tell from here!
Doesn’t the fact that box A plays the box B recordings tell us that these used to have the same key?

Thank you prpr. I will do a search, see how I can run the diagnostic. Re USB, the two devices are connected to the same network switch (which connects to my router). I cannot remember what else was required in the past, but I seem to recall it was very easy to see each other’s recordings. Maybe some configuration was undone with the crash-fix?

I have two HDR-Fox T2, connected through a network switch; let's call them A and B. In May B suffered and recovered from a crash. Since that happened, B has the following issues:....
Maybe double check to what extent box A can play recordings from box B.
Eg can box A play everything from box B?
Or can it only play everything before the crash in May?
Also can box A play box B recordings from this week (before and after the key change)?

Maybe you used something like network shares automount?
There may be some settings on box A [Mod Settings] that don't have reciprocal ones on box B? (After going through other suggestions.)

Thanks bottletop. I doubt I have recordings on B since May; not a big issue if I do. I will do the check you are suggesting.

Re network shares automount, doubtful I had taken initiative; only if it's an option that is recommended on the doc.
I will see what [Mod Settings] are and where to inspect them.

I connected with telnet, put it in maint mode, ran fix-flash-packages; does the following cause concern:

Code:
Configuring newk.
Collected errors:
 * file_md5sum_alloc: Failed to open file /mod/boot/newk.conf: No such file or directory.

What does ls -l /mod/boot/newk* from the command prompt (via telnet) display? It should be something like this:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 54 Mon 12 Jan 2015 22:56:10 /mod/boot/newk.conf
If the file is missing or 0 length, then newk won't be doing anything you might want it to.

I am wondering if the error was before fix-flash-packages did its magic.
