Locked recording issue

LavenderGirl

New Member
Hi guys
Mum has an aura and accidentally locked a recording
It’s new this year and she’s never changed the pin
But 0000 isn’t unlocking
Any ideas on what to do please?
Thanks so much!
Gemma

1. Press the Home button on the remote.
2. Scroll to Settings and press OK.
3. Scroll to System Info and press OK.
4. Press the coloured buttons in the following order
Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Green, Yellow and Blue (this brings up a hidden menu).
5. Scroll to Reset PIN and press OK.
6. PIN is now reset to 0000.

That looks like the method for resetting the PIN on the 4000T/5000T - although it says Reset Password. It doesn't apply to the Aura.

Correct.. we did try that sadly doesn’t work .. and I think you need the code for factory reset too!
She must’ve hit the green button when going to watch bless her

It is possible to change the PIN, I can't remember which menu item it is at the moment, but it doesn't matter - you need the old PIN to set a new PIN! I haven't found the equivalent to the reset to 0000 as explained by Luke for the 4000T/5000T.
Start counting to 9999
That is one possibility!
It's still possible to play, but not delete, the programme if you have VLC installed (for StdDef, maybe not HiDef). But navigating to the recording is a pain. It may also be possible to transfer a StdDef recording to a PC and play it there.

Thanks.. I think she will need to watch it somewhere else ha, and hope she doesn't accidentally do it again!! Don't understand why it's just not 0000 though. Frustrating

It takes a lot of navigation of the Aura's menus to get to the PIN changing item. Not something easily done. So how has it changed from 0000? Is the Aura new, refurbished or secondhand?
nope, brand new, and no settings changed my mum's 84 and wouldn't have changed the pin.. so it's really baffling. Unless it was a return or something I don't know :(

I wonder whether it's worth contacting Humax to see if there is a lost PIN recovery procedure that we don't know about. They'll probably suggest a Factory Reset. What, without a PIN?

Try watching the locked recording from another device. Maybe it'll be available, via DLNA, so that an external device can view the recording. (It's a bit of a long shot, but maybe 'locked' recordings are still served via DLNA. For example, they are on a HDR Fox T2 with custom firmware.)

That's what it says to do in the Aura user guide.

Humax replied:

Changing of the PIN number is one of the first things one has to do after powering the device ON for the 1st time.
You can try a few familiar combinations like 1234 or birthdays and if that does not work, we can reset the PIN number with a reset of the device.
It is the only way to reset the pin unfortunately.
