My instinct is that the network connection is OK (all Cat6 cabled, and I have other devices on the same switch which operate fine). I don't remember if I checked the PSU, but if the HDD doesn't help I will do. The symptoms don't suggest a problem with the front panel. Also I don't think there are any rogue IR sources nearby. Bit of a needle in a haystack :0(
