Odd VLC error

I have a strange VLC problem that has got me baffled. Using the webif in Firefox 46.0.1 I can play a particular recording on the Humax using the VLC plug-in but when I download it to my PC, it will not play in VLC. It is the only recording doing this. VLC is version 2.2.1 on Windows 10 Pro PC.

Anyone seen this before?

Is the recording encrypted?

When playing via the plugin it will be decrypted as it is being retrieved but downloaded recordings must be decrypted before downloading

We have one or two recordings that won't play in VLC, whereas the vast majority are OK. I think I posted about it a while back, but it didn't go anywhere...

You still need to check whether the errant recordings are in fact encrypted.

I thought that when I downloaded a file from the Humax in the webif, they were decrypted. Is that not the case?

Checked tonight and there was no icon to say it was encrypted but I decrypted, downloaded and it plays fine. Thanks for the advice.

Lack of icon means it's encrypted. Dec icon means it's decrypted. Enc icon means it's encrypted and protected from decryption (typically only on HD programmes).
