On-the-fly Transcoding

All static content plays fine (avi, mpg, mpeg etc) but any attempt to play anything transcoded on-the-fly fails with the error message "Cannot support this file format". Attempting to play these same videos on my Windows 7 PC works fine and if I use the same parameters to manually transcode the files and then play them on the Humax then that also works

Does anyone know if the Humax can support on-the-fly transcoding? I have tried Mediatomb and Wild Media Server, but with no luck. I wondered whether the HDR times out if it doesn't see data after a certain period.

What are you trying to do - play from a USB or from a server across a network?

I have heard there are utilities which will run on a PC being used as a server that transcode on the way out - Twonky is a name which rings a bell (but I could be wrong about that).

I got on-the-fly transcoding to work:). Here are the settings to get Sopcast working.
Use Wild Media Server
Setup Sopcast stream using technique described in WMS forum Sopcast thread:
http://wildmediaserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=63
Set transcoding file parameters to:
Extension - mpg
MIME-type - video/mpeg
container - MPEGTS
Codec - MPEG4
Video Bitrate - 8Mbits/sec (must be high to reduce CPU hit)
Audio - AC3
Audio bitrate - 256k
transfer data buffer = 64kB
file size for transfer start - 1KB

When you select a sopcast channel on your Hummy, the file will not be recognized. Click OK, then wait for the transcoding to start on your PC. Once transcoding starts, select the channel again. The stream should now start playing.

I got the parameter settings from the following sourceforge post:
