playback faults

Playback has started to skip small sections of a few recordings, though most play perfectly. Sometimes sound drops out for a short section while the picture continues jerkily. Sometimes quite large chunks of sound and picture are not played back. I doubt this is a recording problem, because repeating playback over the skipped area reveals some (sometimes all) of what's been skipped.

The machine is over a year old and so far it has performed well. I recently removed the HDD to a powered enclosure for easy file transfer, and this works well.

Any ideas about this problem and its solution would be welcome.

Ah! I had a suspicion I may be asked this. Thanks for the reply, Martin. The answer is no, I'm pretty sure not. Though they didn't appear straight away.
