Newbee question. When I play something with I-player, the menu appears at the bottom for about 2 minutes which is annoying. Is there a key on the remote to get rid of the menu? I now realise Exit and Back are for 'Page navigation' and 'Next chapter' jumps 5 minutes which is good. But so far, have to wait the 2 minutes each time I pause or otherwise activate the menu before it auto-disappears.

No, the behavior is controlled by the iplayer webpage scripts.
Maybe ping the bbc a message asking them to reduce the time it is displayed or a button to hide it.
