Posting Links to threads

I often link to threads here from other forums, blogs and twitter posts and if a thread title is changed then the link to that thread changes and so all of those links break : (

It's arguably one of the few flaws in this forum software (and yes, I know it was a deliberate design choice, just not one with which I agree!)

You could just post the link to the thread number, as this doesn't change if the title is modified.

The thread number can be found at the end of the URL, and in this case is 640.

This will link directly to the appropriate thread, even if the title has been changed.

...so you can just delete everything between 'threads/' and '.'? Useful tip; I probably need to go through the Index and clean the links up.

Thanks - I didn't know that. In fact, I just tested and it seems to ignore everything in the link before the thread ID anyway.

Sorry to pollute this thread - is it possible to move these messages to a new one in site/forum issues?
I have just tried this, and as long as you have the"." before the thread number, it does as you say. If the "." is missing, this does not work.

@af123, are you happy with this thread title? and would you like to edit your first message so that it is more relevant.
